Resumen:
Since 1990, the Historic Center of Lima (CHL) has been the subject of various urban interventions, focused on the recovery of public spaces, rehabilitation of facades and balconies, and to a lesser extent on the rehabilitation of housing. Despite the aesthetic achievements in this urban area, the housing problem has not been part of the urban policy of the governments in power. In addition to this, since 2010 the historic neighborhoods of the CHL are undergoing urban transformation processes, being Barrios Altos one of the most affected by the construction of warehouses and warehouses, impacting the permanence of residents. In order to delve deeper into this phenomenon, the research aims to typify the causes of social displacement in the historic center of Lima caused by the private sector, in the case of Barrios Altos. The methodological approach of the research is qualitative, interviews were conducted with public officials, displaced population, neighborhood leaders and displacement agents. A focus group was also conducted with the leaders and displaced population. The results show that three types of factors intervene in social displacement in Barrios Altos, and that social displacement is part of long and violent processes. It is concluded that the agents involved in social displacement in the CHL, Barrios Altos, are not only private agents, but also public sector agents by action and inaction.
